The Alchemist

How far you can go for your dreams? 

The story tells you about a young boy, Santiago who travelled a lot,who discovered a lot and who learns a lot during the journey. 

The story starts with a young boy Santiago who is troubled from a long time about his dream he got every night when he sleeps under a sycamore tree which is grown behind the ruins of the old church.

                                                  In his dreams a boy  appeared who firstly plays with his sheeps and then tells him that in the Egypt at the foothills of giant pyramid lies great treasure,whoever find it,will take it.

                                                                  He was very confused because this same dream he is seeing every night from a long time.

         Santiago then decided to go to Tarifa to ask a gypsy woman about his dream.

                  When he asked her she demanded 1/10th of the treasure, he found nothing great information from her,she told him that actually there is such a pyramid and treasure and you have to go for it.

                      when he was sitting at a bench in the market, a man in very bad clothes and like a beggar came to him and started talking with  him but Santiago doesn't want to talk with him so he kept himself busy in reading his book.

               The old man whose name was Melchizedek tells Santiago that he was the king of Salem,

                        he then talked to Santiago about his dream, Santiago thought that the gypsy woman has sent him but actually he is paying attention to his thoughts.

                                   Melchizedek motivated Santiago to sell his all the sheeps and go abroad to find the treasure, 

                                           he demanded 1/10th of the sheeps of Santiago and offered him two magical stones, Umim and Thamim and let him go. 

           Santiago did the same he sold all his sheeps and gave 1/10th to the king and then Travelled far away to another place, Tangier to go to Egypt and do the treasure hunting.

                     When he arrived at Tangier,a thief stole all of his money and then he was forced to work at a Crystal shop which is at the top of a hill where People comes rarely.

           When Santiago reached there he asked the shop owner to clean the glasses so that their sales will increase and in return of that you can give me food.

                                Santiago cleaned all the glasses and got an afternoon meal with the shop owner,     

                 the shop owner then asked him to work for him so that he will get benefitted, Santiago had no money and he need some to travel to Egypt so he accepted the deal started working there with the owner.

                                       One day he saw that people are getting tired after climbing the hill so he uses his brain and told to they owner to provide tea to people in his glasses so that he get revenue from both the sides and the trick worked, people actually started to buy their glasses/crystals. 

                                          With his smartness he flourished the business later and increased the sales at a high rate and within a year he got a lot of money and at that point he had two choices: 

Either he can go to Spain and buy some sheeps and follow the same routine again or

He can go to Egypt and find the treasure.

       

       Then after a lot of brainstorming  he decided to continue his journey, with the owner's guidance he joined a caravan which is going through the sahara desert. 

                                                              During the journey he mets with an Englishman in the caravan who is searching an Alchemist who lives at the Oasis of Al-fayoum in sahara to ask him how he turns lead to gold.

                                      At the Oasis a lot of wars are taking place, so he decided to stay there for some time and find the Alchemist,

                       Santiago asked a girl at a well the way to the Alchemist, the girl, Fatima told them the address. 

                               Santiago then fell in love with Fatima, he can even ruin his journey for her.

      When he told her all his situation, she told him that she'll wait for him until he finds his treasure and come back to him. 

                                                        The next day while walking in the desert Santiago witnesses an omen of attack on the Oasis,he told the thing to the chief, 

                                    the chief said that if we are going to be attacked then we'll prepare for that but if no attack happens tomorrow then you will have to die and fortunately the next day. 

     They were attacked and due to their preparations they survived the war and by that thing the chief was so happy that he offered Santiago to live there and he gave him a lot of gold.

                       He made Santiago the chancellor of their place, but Santiago wants to complete the journey so, he denied the offer. 

                              That day, the Englishman and Santiago finds the Alchemist.

The Alchemist told Englishman that from 10 years he is searching him, why does he didn't even tried only one time to turn lead into gold,

       he told the Englishman to find the secret of lead turning into gold by his own and then he told Santiago to leave the carvan and go with him and Santiago did the same.

                                            During the journey Alchemist shared much of his knowledge and wisdom with the boy.

                               While travelling, a group of Arab soldiers caught them and to defend themselves,        

               alchemist gave all the money of Santiago to them and told them that Santiago has powers he can transform himself into wind within 3 days.

                              Santiago became tensed because he don't know how to change himself to any other form. 

                             On the night of second day alchemist told Santiago to believe in his heart and understand the soul of the desert and try to communicate with nature.

                           Santiago didn't get anything yet, on the third day he stands on a hill and closed his eyes and started talking with the desert winds, the earth and the hands who wrote the destiny of all and a huge sandstorm came there,

                                  And  when Santiago opens his eyes he was at an unknown place with the alchemist,then by continuing the journey they reached a Coptic monastery.

                                   Alchemist showed his ability and turned lead into gold and gave a large part of it to Santiago and let him go alone to his way. 

        After travelling a lot Santiago finds the pyramid and started digging at its foothills

two mens arrived and almost killed Santiago, when he tells them what he's doing there one of them stopped and told him "dreams are worthless even I got a dream that there is treasure at another country under a tree behind a ruined church", 

                                   Santiago understands that the real treasure is at the place where he always used to sleep, he finally got the treasure, arrived back to the desert and married Fatima.

                  The story tells us that believe in yourself, believe in your heart, never stop even if you lost everything you have your life and body, 

             your dreams never come alone they teaches you a lot of more things and give you all those things which you never dreamt of.  

                             The book also tells us that the treasure is within us, but we have to travel around the world, face all the difficulties and challenges to find it. 

                             Another lesson the book gives us is that, that is not true love if you've to leave your dream for. 

                                    True love exists like Fatima did to Santiago, she said to him to go and she'll wait until he comes. 

True love never forces you to leave your dreams, it encourages you to follow them, even if it takes time and has very little chance of success. 

              Don't ever try to quit, is another thing we learned from the book.

 Santiago lost everything he has several times, but he never stop moving forward and finally he reached his destination.
